1 year, 6 weeks: First haircut

A certain individual (who shall not be named) had some problems with food getting in his hair and hair getting in his eyes.

"Not too much off the top, Dad!"

'I"m not sure I like this"

"Help."

"I want YOU to get a haircut, too!"

I would just like to point out that I did the bulk of the cutting, and he wasn't fussing while I was doing it.

Just sayin'.

This little guy does like his baths. Rob couldn't get the tub full fast enough for him. Here he's showing me his ducks.

Like father like son.

His balance is getting better. He keeps letting go of our hands and walking a step or two. He's cruising everywhere he can.

The babbling continues apace. He seems to be linking some sounds with objects, but not true words yet.

One of the things he does say is a woofing sound when he sees a dog. And does he like dogs! He gets absolutely beside himself when he sees one, and heads right towards them. He's really good with them when he gets close. The other day there was a puppy at the playground and he had a ball playing with her. When the puppy ran away, Zack was right behind her, as fast has he could go. The only downside is he throws a small tantrum when it's time to get back in the stroller to go home.

There probably won't be a post next week because we'll be in Santa Fe--Zack's first plane ride! Hopefully it'll go well, and I'm sure there will be a lot of pictures to share when we get back.

Zack was very busy last night. He had newspapers to sort through. He was in the mudroom for probably 30 minutes pulling papers out of the recycling bag, putting them on one side or the other, deciding they were in the wrong pile, pulling out more, flinging unwanted ones aside.

And let me tell you, this was serious business!

Then all of a sudden he was finished...

...and decided it was time for a bath.

"Hey, Dad! Run my bath water, will you?"

Have I mentioned that there's a monkey in our house?

A very busy monkey.
Who takes measurements for drapes.

A monkey who is also a ham...

...and a tongue-thruster.

A monkey who likes the water.

And who likes to hang upside down.

******************************************************************************
Our little monkey is 22 lbs 10 oz (50th percentile) and 31.5 inches tall (85 percentile), and in good health aside from a little ear infection.

We've been going to the playground a lot after I pick him up from daycare. He likes checking out the jungle gym and the bouncy animals (those large plastic animals on springs that kids sit and bounce on--what are they called?). He's also intrigued by the wood chips that cover the area and likes to throw them around.

The best purchase we've made of late is a set of 3 balls, a little football, basketball and soccer ball. He LOVES them! He rolls them everywhere, scoots after them, and rolls them some more. It's really too cute when he rolls one under the couch and he bends down to peer after it. They're small enough that he can pick one up with one hand, so I'm sure he'll be throwing them soon enough. What's pretty funny is that he's testing out other things to see if they roll the same way.

He's started dancing a bit. Nonno and Nonnie sent him an Easter Bunny that sings a song and waggles his ears. Zack shakes his head and bounces along to it whenever it's playing its tune.

I haven't done a food update lately (and you probably haven't missed it). His new favorite things are clementines and blueberries. We can't give him blueberries at the start of a meal or he won't eat anything else. He also really likes avocados, mangoes, tofu, pasta, Grandma's macaroni and cheese recipe, cheese, carrots, peas....he's not too picky of an eater, really.

Enjoy the first day of Spring!

Spring has sprung
Grass has riz
I wonder where the birdies is....

Spring is here!

(There were some daffodils in full bloom, too, but by the time I saw those I was feeling a bit stalkerish about photographing people's yards).
'

I know, you're not here to see pictures of flowers. Don't worry, there are kid pictures, too. We took a long walk this past gorgeously warm Sunday and ended up at the playground, where Zack was taking copious notes on the antics of some boys who, I'm quite sure, were not using the playground equipment as the manufacturers originally intended. We may be in trouble in a few years. In the meantime, he's happy to swing and just check things out.

This is my new favorite picture.

Now that Zack is big enough and old enough, we switched his car seat to a forward facing one, which he likes quite a lot. He gets this big grin on his face, like he knows he's a big boy now.

I'm also afraid to put this in writing, but he's been sleeping better. He's been sleeping for about 8 hours straight at night, and is doing better at putting himself to sleep. This seems to mean that one minute he's looking at a book, and the next moment he's toppled over fast asleep.

But I'm not complaining.

Week 54: Busy

There is a lot on this guy's agenda, let me tell you. He's moving about 23 hours and 45 minutes out of every day (yes, even in his sleep).

What does he do, you might ask? Well...

There's laundry to do...
(we put him in the dryer...he hasn't figured out how to climb in...yet)

...He's got drawers to rearrange and tupperware to lose...

...bags to sort...

...messes to leave behind...

...and music to select.

And even with that busy schedule he still finds time to make funny faces.

***********************************************************************
He's started pointing at things, wanting to know what they are.

He also just started sharing. He put some of his dinner in my mouth, and gave me some of his toys. He usually wants whatever it is right back, but it's sweet nonetheless.

He's got a few more teeth in, for a total of 5. Two on the bottom, and three on top. On the top he seems to be getting in the left side first, with the right side waiting in the wings.

He's getting closer to walking. He's doing really well if we hold just one of his hands--in fact, he usually lets go of one hand if we're holding both. Soon!
